On March 21, 2003, John Schreiber produced Marian McPartland's 85th Birthday celebration at Birdland in New York City. The event was sponsored by Concord Records, Fujitsu Ltd., WBGO, and South Carolina Educational Radio.

The evening was hosted by Murray Horwitz with remarks by Moss Bresnahan, Leonard Garment, Nick Phillips and Ben Roe. Musicians who performed were Karrin Allyson, Tony Bennett, Jackie Cain, Barbara Carroll, Regina Carter, Bill Charlap, Ravi Coltrane, Bill Crow, Glenn Davis, Dave Douglas, Jon Faddis, Nnenna Freelon, Jim Hall, Roy Hargrove, Norah Jones, Jackie King, Gary Mazzaroppi, Jason Moran, Joe Morello, Chris Potter, Loren Schoenberg, Curtis Stigers, Dr. Billy Taylor, Clark Terry, George Wein, James Williams and Phil Woods.

Jazz pianist Marian McPartland is best known for her radio show Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz, the longest running NPR radio show in history.
