Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, New York

Kayaking in Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island, New York is exhilarating, especially when the tides are taken into consideration. At low tide the launch dock is basically sitting on top of mud and exits must be done on a rocky shore near the launch point. There are many sandy beaches however, which make getting out and resting very nice.

Egret

Posted on top of a piling this egret makes a classic image in Cold Spring Harbor.

Beach at Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, New York

One of the many sandy beaches along Cold Spring Harbor. Landing the kayak here was very nice due to the gentle slope of the beaches.

This is a view from the water of the pilings on the eastern shore of Cold Spring Harbor.

This shot was taken while heading out to Long Island Sound from Cold Spring Harbor. Oyster Bay is to the left.

My brand new Dagger Meridien SK-S Kayak

New Dagger Meridien SK-S sea kayak I purchased in May, 2003. This photo was taken by Randy Henriksen (store owner) at the New York Kayak Company on the proud day I took ownership of the kayak. Randy let me try out lots of kayaks and offered great advice during the purchase of my kayak.

Empire State Building from the Hudson River

This photo was shot from my kayak on the Hudson River. It is a view of the west side of Manhattan just north of Pier 40. The Empire State Building can be seen behind the old pilings.

Hoboken View

Photo taken from the Hudson River from my kayak. This view shows Hoboken, New Jersey.

Kayak on top of Chevy Blazer

My kayak travels very well on top of a Chevy Blazer SUV with Thule kayak craddles and a detachable Thule rack system. The kayak has traveled many hundreds of miles like this. Here it is parked in front of our old cottage at Lakeside, Ohio on Lake Erie.
