| Acicastello street
Acicastello is a lovely town on the east coast of Sicily. It is named for its castle built on a basalt rock which sticks out of the sea. It was covered with lava in an eruption during 1169. The castle was rebuilt by Roger of Lauria, the rebel admiral of Frederick II (1297). |

The town to the north of Acicastello is Acitrezza. It is a resort area with excellent access to the sea. |

| Vincenzo Bellini Museum in Catania
The house in Catania where Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835) lived has been turned into a museum. Bellini was a composer of opera and pupil of Niccolo Antonio Zingarelli (1752-1837). He wrote his last completed opera The Puritans for performance in Paris, and died near there. The other operas he composed in his short life include The Capulets and the Montagues, The Sleep-Walker and Norma. |
