Eiffel Tower - Ironwork Pattern

Originally built to impress visitors to the Universal Exhibition of 1889, the Eiffel Tower was supposed to be a temporary addition to the Paris skyline. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923) and was the world's tallest building until 1931 when the Empire State Building was completed in New York City.

Gustave Eiffel chose the complex pattern of pigiron girders to stabilize the tower in strong winds.
