Back to Diana's Recordings index   (Click CD cover to view list to songs.)           From 1973 to 1987 Diana Robinson wrote songs and shopped them around New York City, Nashville and Los Angeles. (She still writes songs, but stopped and got a 'real' job in 1987!) This web page contains MP3 files for a small selection of vocals and instrumentals from this period. Diana started recording in her Brooklyn apartment in 1977 when she purchased a Teac 3440 4-track tape recorder. She used DrumDrops drum recordings in the beginning (before drum machines) and recorded all the tracks herself (including harmony vocals). In 1982 she moved into Manhattan and switched to all MIDI recording, then eventually to all digital recording.           The range of recording quality of these MP3s varies widely due to the equipment used at the time, but the recordings are interesting from a recording history point of view. Collaborations are noted but for the most part all music and lyrics were composed by Diana using her maiden name at the time, Diana Robinson. In 1984 Diana won Honorable Mention in the American Songwriting Contest and had her tune "A Month of Mondays" published in Nashville. It was a very fun and creative period for Diana and to keep things in perspective she likes to quote songwriter Jimmy Webb who said in his 1998 book, Tunesmith: Inside the Art of Songwriting:   "I would hope they [aspiring songwriters] remember that in a best-case scenario ninety percent of what is written never receives the slightest notice."   Click below to view the songs alphabetically, by date, vocals only or instrumentals only.
