How to OCR - Turning Printed Text
    into Editable Text

  1. If someone gives you a large amount of printed text which you must edit you will certainly want to OCR the text. Optical Character Recognition is extremely accurate and easy to do.

  2. Launch OmniPage Professional.

  3. The following menu will appear:

  4. You should next check the scanning settings. To scan in landscape mode select Settings Panel from the Settings pull down menu.

  5. Here you can change the page size to Legal with an orientation of Landscape. This is a useful setting for scanning two pages of a book at once.

  6. Close the Settings Panel and you are ready to scan. Click on the Auto button under the File menu. The scanner will scan the page and OmniPage Professional will automatically perform the OCR operation. When the operation is complete your text document will appear in an "Untitled" window on the right side of the screen.

  7. If you are scanning multiple pages, you can simply click on the Auto button again and the subsequent scans will be added to the open file.

  8. Save this document using an appropriate file naming structure which will allow for easy editing. Save frequently.

  9. Use your favorite word processor to edit the OCR files.
